Fantasy Impact: Donovan McNabb to the Washington Redskins

While many teams were rumored to be in the hunt for quarterback Donovan McNabb’s services this off-season, the one team that seemed perhaps the least likely was a trade to the division rival Washington Redskins.
McNabb who has gone to five NFC Championship games and a Superbowl did have some say in his trade.  According to sources close to the team it was McNabb’s request to go to the Redskins rather than a team like the Oakland Raiders.
The Redskins franchise has been the busiest of all team’s so far in terms of fantasy impact moves, first with the addition of new head coach Mike Shanahan as well as the signing running backs Larry Johnson (Cincinnati Bengals) and Willie Parker (Pittsburgh Steelers). With today’s move to bring in McNabb, the fantasy QB position just got a little deepers, and Redskins offensive players just moved up 2010 draft boards.
For the Philadelphia Eagles, they made their job of winning the toughest division in football even tougher this Easter, but McNabb needed to be traded for the team to move forward.
From a fantasy perspective, based on QB Kevin Kolb’s previous fill-in performances, there is another stud QB in the making, and one who perhaps fits the Eagles mindset better than McNabb ever did. What remains to be seen is how Michael Vick’s presence will impact Kolb’s viability.
Receivers Jeremy Maclin, DeSean Jackson and Brent Celek will all continue to prosper under Kolb, with no significant drop-off in fantasy value. In fact, Celek may now have moved higher on tight end draft ranks.
For the Redskins, their receiving corp of Malcolm Kelly, Santana Moss and Devin Thompson, along with tight ends, Chris Cooley and Fred Davis all just got a fantasy boost, as rosters stand now.
