Screaming Females Follow Ted Leo Around

Okay, we admit it, that headline might have been slightly misleading. After all, Ted Leo’s an alright-looking guy, but let’s face it, he’s really not the sort to inspire Duran Duran-like legions of groupies stalking him from show to show. No, the Screaming Females we’re talking about are a young, punk-tinged New Jersey band on the rise. Led by singer/guitarist Marissa Paternoster, who has been garnering a lot of attention as a six-string heroine, Screaming Females have been the opening band of choice for everyone from Dinosaur Jr. to the Arctic Monkeys.  But now you can catch them on a string of dates with their fellow Garden Stater Leo — who happens to be promoting a brand new album, The Brutalist Bricks — this June. The band will spend the rest of the spring leading up to that stint, on a schedule that finds them supporting Japanther, among others.
You’ve gotta  love a band that made it’s first appearance on TV by appearing on a public-access show in Chicago and dancing with puppets. And even if they don’t rise up and rule the rock world in the way that’s currently being predicted in some quarters, you can bet they’ll still be the top dogs of the New Brunswick basement scene (Google it, hipster).
