Hacked iPad 3G sends texts, runs on T-Mobile

Filed under: Apple, iPhoneOur friends over at Engadget are reporting on a wicked hack for the just-released iPad 3G that allows you to send SMS messages and use the device on US carrier T-Mobile. iPhone fans who are dissatisfied with AT&T's performance have been using jailbroken phones to get around the AT&T/Apple exclusive carrier contact and use T-Mobile for some time. It's good news, then, that there's a trick for the iPad as well.

The videos after the jump will show you how to pull off these hacks, but the basic gist is that you have to trim down a T-Mobile SIM card to fit your iPad's micro-SIM slot. The SMS trick depends on inserting the trimmed-down T-Mobile SIM, because AT&T appears to be blocking SMS messages at the carrier level.
