Album Review: Nonpoint – ‘Miracle’ (2 Dogs Records)
Ft. Lauderdale, FL-based nu metal/hard-rock stalwarts Nonpoint have been one of the most consistent acts in the genre for a decade plus and the 12 power-packed tracks here are more evidence as to why. Much like Sevendust and Mudvayne, Nonpoint have avoided falling prey to shifting tastes and instead have focused on keeping their fan base satiated with solid songwriting, chugging riffs and bowel-rattling bass. In fact, Miracle was co-produced by the band with Mudvayne/Hellyeah vocalist Chad Gray (who guests on the title track) and fellow guitarist Greg Tribbett. The album marks a hefty debut for new guitarist Zach Broderick, who replaced original member Andrew Goldman. He fits right in and tracks like “Shadow,” “Looking Away” and “Crazy” keep it simple — big guitars, thunderous drums, intense vocals and meaty hooks. “What You’ve Got For Me” has modern rock radio smash written all over it, while a killer cover of Pantera’s “Five Minutes Alone” pays tribute to the band’s roots. Staying true to their style, Miracle is a kick-ass batch from these relentless grinders that sticks to the axiom: if it ain’t broke, don’t try to fix it.
