Mouse Mischief, from Microsoft, is a free add-on for PowerPoint 2007/2010 that lets teachers create multi-user presentations.
PowerPoint presentations can be boring. When I say “can be,” I'm being generous; they are usually quite boring and dull. On the other hand, they have the potential to really get your point across and deliver some new information to your audience, if you do them right.
When your audience is a bunch of bored students, that can be tricky. Mouse Mischief aims to solve this by letting the students participate in the actual presentation. Each student gets a themed mouse pointer (so you can tell them apart), and the teacher tells them to select the right answer or do something.
Another cool feature about Mouse Mischief is that you don't need to provide all the kids with laptops (we can all imagine where that would lead). Each student just has a mouse on their desk, and they use it to interact with the presentation wirelessly. One computer processes all mouse inputs.
Mouse Mischief won't save you if your style is boring or if the presentation is too long. However, if you have some style or an interesting topic, it can certainly offer a fun touch of interactivity.
