John Lennon Catalog to Be Remastered

Yoko Ono and EMI have announced that in honor of what would have been John Lennon’s 70th birthday that they will be remastering and reissuing the bulk of the legendary songwriter’s solo catalog. The reissue campaign, dubbed “Gimme Some Truth,” will commence on October 4th in the UK and October 5 in North America (Lennon’s birthday is October 9th), and will include eight remastered studio albums, including a new “stripped down” mix of Double Fantasy, his Grammy Award winning album from 1980, four compilations of hits organized by theme, and an 11-disc boxset titled The John Lennon Signature Box. The new version of Double Fantasy, which also includes a remastered version of the original mix, was produced by Ono and Jack Douglas, who originally co-produced the album with Lennon. The other seven titles were remastered by Allan Rouse at Abbey Road Studios in London and by George Marino at Avatar Studios in New York. All of the titles will be packaged with original album art and booklets with photos and new liner notes by music journalist Paul Du Noyer.
On JohnLennon.com, Yoko Ono commented: “In this very special year, which would have seen my husband and life partner John reach the age of 70, I hope that this remastering/reissue program will help bring his incredible music to a whole new audience. By remastering 121 tracks spanning his solo career, I hope also that those who are already familiar with John’s work will find renewed inspiration from his incredible gifts as a songwriter, musician and vocalist and from his power as a commentator on the human condition. His lyrics are as relevant today as they were when they were first written and I can think of no more apposite title for this campaign than those simple yet direct words ‘Gimme Some Truth’.”
