T-Mobile Making Way for the “Next Iteration of the T-Mobile Sidekick” By Discontinuing the OGs

We all saw this day creeping upon us, but it’s now a reality: the Sidekick is officially dead… or at least the Sidekick as we once knew it, anyway. If you want to grab a piece of great T-Mobile history (good or bad) straight from T-Mobile themselves, then act fast: they’ll be halting sales of all their current Sidekick models July 2nd (tomorrow).
As T-Mobile looks to further innovate and raise the bar for the next iteration of the T-Mobile Sidekick, as of July 2, the Sidekick LX and Sidekick 2008 will no longer be available through T-Mobile, including retail stores, care, telesales and online. While we work on the next chapter of our storied Sidekick franchise, T-Mobile will continue to provide our loyal Sidekick customers with product service and support. Stay tuned for exciting updates in the months ahead, which we expect will provide customers with a new and fresh experience.
T-Mobile’s not done with the name yet, though. Just as it’s been rumored over and over again, they’re expected to re-introduce the Sidekick legacy and it’s long been believed that Android will be a huge part of that reboot.

Taking a look back at those rumors, we kept hearing about “Project Emerald” which everyone believed would be a superphone with Sidekick branding made by HTC and running Android. Is it no coincidence that we’re now hearing rumors regarding an HTC-made Vision with the same 4.3-inch screen we’ve heard to be included with the Sidekick supposedly due at the end of the year? (original rumors regarding the new Sidekick saw the device with a 1GHz processor, while the HTC Vision is said to have an 800MHz dual-core processor by Qualcomm)
All of this is still rumored at this point, but I can’t imagine that the pieces to this puzzle are going together quite this elegantly without there being some degree of truth to them.
