Skype for iPhone now runs in background, making it way more useful

Filed under: Utilities, VoIP, iPhoneI remember when you could use Skype on your iPhone, but it couldn't run in the background, which made it useless for taking incoming calls. Well, that was yesterday. In the brave new multitasking world of iOS 4, the latest version of Skype can now run in the background, and incoming calls are no problem.

You can just leave Skype going, and you'll get a ring and a push notification when a call comes in. It works over 3G or WiFi, and the multitasking makes it easier to do other things while you're on the phone. Before, you couldn't leave the Skype window to look up a phone number or Google an address without ending your call. Now, it's no problem.
