Android 2.2 pushed to Droid next week, some as early as tonight
Not to be outdone by Sprint, Verizon will also roll out Android 2.2 to the Motorola Droid starting next week. The push will start for most users the week of August 2nd, but a Motorola forums manager reports that a small set of users might receive the update tonight as part of a pre-launch test.
We thought that Verizon might update all their high-end Droids at the same time, but we recently heard that Motorola was still working out the bugs for their Motoblur version of Android 2.2 for the Droid X and Droid 2.
The original Droid has a stock version of Android, so it has been in testing for a much longer period of time and this early release looks like a direct response to Sprint (and their claim of being first with Android 2.2).
Verizon is also testing Android 2.2 for the HTC Droid Incredible and we expect it will be released any day. At this point, it looks like Droid X owners will have to wait several more weeks (possibly till the Droid 2 hits stores).
