Andy Murray Rallying British Hopes
Andy Murray was unable to become the first British male to win a Grand Slam in almost forever this year, but he has continued to show shines that he’s the UK’s great tennis hope. The Scot’s recent victory over old foe Roger Federer at the Shanghai Rolex Masters proved Murray deserves to be ranked #4 in the world. Federer dispatched Murray for the second time in a Grand Slam final in 2010 at the Australian Open. The 23-year-old has been knocking on the door the past few years. Losing in the semis two years in a row at Wimbledon and the US Open Finals in 2008, Murray is looking for a breakthrough next year. A consistent competitor on the ATP tour, Murray won the ATP Rodgers Cup in addition to his title in Shanghai. The emergence of Murray as a worldwide star is great for the sport and will certainly help sell Sony Ericsson Open tickets next March. Perhaps in 2011 Murray can finally claim his first Grand Slam title. Time will tell.
