LG previously announced they were working on an Android tablet using the Tegra 2 processor, but then the Korean manufacturer delayed the product launch to wait for Honeycomb (Android 3.0). Given what we have seen from other Tegra 2 tablets running Android 2.2, they made the wise decision.
If you are wondering how Google could release Honeycomb so soon after Gingerbread (Android 2.3), that is because both versions were based off Froyo (Android 2.2) and have been in development at the same time. Gingerbread was targeted at phones and existing devices while Honeycomb was designed for tablets.
Korean site mk News has a report up which includes some new details about LG’s tablet. They say it will launch in Q1 2011 around the globe, feature an 8.9 inch display, and of course feature the dual-core 1 GHz Tegra 2 processor.
It was also revealed that LG has been preparing for this tablet release for quite some time. Early this year, they formed a special task force to gather opinions from North American and European consumers so they could improve the design of their Android tablet.
Look to January 5th for more details. LG has a massive press event planned for CES where they are expected to unveil the tablet along with their Tegra 2-powered phone.
