If you’re gonna attempt a return to the stage after a dragged-out, drug-addled downward spiral, you might as well do it in Brazil.
The singer Amy Winehouse, whose ongoing adventures in self destruction made Courtney Love look like Jennifer Love Hewitt, has announced a short tour in January 2011 throughout the South American country. Billed as a “one-off tour,” the shows will be her first full live gigs since 2008. NME reports that she’s got Janelle Monae supporting her on dates that take her from Rio to Sao Paulo, so that’s good. Monae, who blew up over the summer and has been touring with Of Montreal, seems like a real no-bullshit kind of gal, so maybe she’ll inspire Winehouse to stay on the straight and narrow. I mean, the tour spans all of one week…what could go wrong?
