John Lennon’s Final Interview Released By Rolling Stone

On the 30th anniversary of his death, Rolling Stone has released the full transcript as well as audio clips of John Lennon’s final interview with the magazine, which took place just three days before he was shot by Mark David Chapman on December 8, 1980.
In a rush to run something directly after the tragedy, Rolling Stone published brief excerpts of Lennon’s interview with Jonathan Cott, but today is the first time the entire interview has been made available.
Cott remarked about his conversations with Lennon, “”His words are totally joyous and vibrant and hopeful and subversive and fearless…he didn’t mince words.” If you listen to the audio clips, available here, you’ll hear exactly what he’s talking about. Passionate, focused, and intensely self-aware, it’s hard to listen to, thinking about what Lennon would be saying and creating even now at the age of 70…but on the anniversary of his death, at least we have this archive to remind of us his message of peace, love, and being true to yourself.
