Google Goggles now scans barcodes instantly, recognizes print ads, solves Sudoku

Google Goggles for Android has made it all the way to version 1.3. Its barcode scanning performance has been much improved, leading to near-instant scans and results.

Goggles for both Android and iPhone (where it's part of the Google mobile application for iOS) can now recognize print ads in magazines and newspapers. This feature is different from the experiment announced a couple of months ago — the app will recognize many more ads, and when it recognizes an ad, it will show Web search results, not a specific link. This feature is enabled for all print ads that have appeared in major US newspapers and magazines starting in August 2010.

Finally, Goggles for Android and iPhone can now help you solve Sudoku puzzles, by recognizing them and being able to provide answers. If you're ever stuck in solving a Sudoku puzzle, just let Goggles have a clear picture of it, and the app will give you the correct solution. To see how this works, check out the demo video after the break.

Google Goggles 1.3 for Android is available for free in the Android Market. Google Goggles for iOS is available as part of the free Google mobile application in the iTunes App Store.Continue reading Google Goggles now scans barcodes instantly, recognizes print ads, solves SudokuGoogle Goggles now scans barcodes instantly, recognizes print ads, solves Sudoku
