HTC Sense 3.0 not coming to older handsets due to hardware limitations
The HTC Sensation and EVO 3D may be the hottest phones of 2011, but if you’ve recently purchased an HTC phone and are still bound by that perky two year contract you’ve probably been wondering if your handset will get updated with HTC Sense 3.0. Many of HTC’s phones will be updated to Gingerbread during Q2, but don’t expect HTC Sense 3.0 to be included in that update. HTC’s Twitter account has revealed that HTC’s older handset will not see HTC sense 3.0 due to the hardware requirements of the new 3D UI.
This news is certainly disappointing, but not at all surprising. The 3D enhancements in the latest version of Sense would simply slow single-core handset to a crawl, making them nearly unusable.
But just because Sense 3.0 will not be coming to the EVO 4G, Desire, or Desire HD does not mean that your Sense experience is dead in the water. HTC is clearly targeting HTC Sense 3.0 for their high-end devices which feature bleeding fast processors and high resolution displays, but the evolution of Sense should continue to progress with their low end handsets as well.
