Animal Collective @ Pitchfork Music Festival 2011 by @whitperson

Animal Collective headlined the first day of the Pitchfork Music Festival and Whitperson was there to get photos after seeing the band twice this week, once earlier in the week when they played in Brooklyn. The stage design was awesome looking and something that made an appearance earlier in the week as well. You can also watch the entire rip of the Pitchfork webcast that’s still up on YouTube (which I’m watching right now). This is the setlist of new songs that the band has been perfecting on the road, likely for their next album…

Some people loved it…
The space in between is vast, and no band understood how to fill it like Animal Collective, the Friday night headliner. Their stage setup was ornate and whimsical, their lights and video accompaniment trippy. And then there was the music, notable for its vividness, its complexity and its movement.

Some people did not…
“Were you here for Panda Bear last year?” asked the woman next to me. Alas, yes I was. She joined me in rolling eyes. “My friend and I were rolling on the ground in the fetal position begging God to make it stop.” Lather, rinse, repeat.
