OnLive turns your Android device into a game console

Tonight OnLive announced that their cloud gaming service has finally launched in the Android Market. The service allows you to buy or rent the hottest console and PC games then stream them to any device including PC, Mac, TV and now tablets and smartphones. The OnLive Android app is free and users who download it now can get a free copy of LEGO Batman.
Steve Perlman, Founder & CEO, described the service in a company blog post by saying, “OnLive games are cross-platform, so you can start a game on your TV at home, continue it on your tablet on the train to work, then sneak in a session during your lunch break on PC or Mac, each time dropping seamlessly into the action just where you left off, with full cross-platform multiplayer and social features.” OnLive supports both WiFi and mobile networks like 4G LTE, so you really can play anywhere with a connection.
Normally most games work with the OnLive wireless controller (coming soon for $49), but the company has also been implementing touch controls for the most popular games. At today’s launch there are over 20 touch-enabled games including LEGO Batman, Defense Grid Gold, Dirt 3, Split Second, Darksiders and many more.
OnLive currently supports the following Android devices:

Supported Android tablets: Acer Iconia Tab A500, ASUS Eee Pad Transformer, HTC Flyer, HTC Jetstream, Motorola Xoom, Samsung Galaxy Tab, Sony Tablet S, Toshiba Thrive
Support Android Phones: HTC EVO, HTC Nexus One, HTC Rezound 4G, HTC Sensation, HTC Sensation XL, Motorola Droid 2, Motorola Droid X2, Motorola DROID BIONIC 4G, Motorola DROID RAZR 4G, Motorola Photon 4G, Samsung Galaxy S II 4G

If you don’t see your device listed above, OnLive says to hang in there because more will be added over the coming months.
Overall it looks like an awesome service with a growing library of 200 games. I also like the ability to test-drive games instantly, rent for 3 or 5 days, or outright purchase. OnLive also sells a special PlayBack Bundle that offers unlimited access to 100+ games. We haven’t tried the service yet, but I’m downloading it now to give LEGO Batman a spin on my tablet.
Check out the demo video below, head over to the Android Market and download OnLive for Android, and then let us know what you think.
