SuperTooth Disco Sequel Looks Like a Plastic Vase

Buy two Disco2 speakers and they'll turn into a stereo pair
How does a consumer electronics company follow up on a super-successful product? Well, if the company is SuperTooth, and the product is the beautifully retro-styled and “wildly popular” Disco Bluetooth speaker, then you toss out everything and start over with a product that looks like… A flower vase?
That’s right. The Disco2 ditches the 1970s automobile styling for an upright box. It’s certainly not ugly, but neither is it as classically stylish as v1.0. Neither is it as loud: the new Disco pushes out just 16 watts against the 28 watts that issue forth from the subwoofer and twin drivers of the original.
What the Disco2 does bring, though, is a very clever trick. Buy two of them ($100 each instead of the original’s $150) and they’ll become a stereo pair, talking to each other wirelessly to act like a pair of regular wired stereo speakers (hey, JawBone: why not add this to the JamBox with a firmware update, huh?).
Fortunately, it looks like you can choose the direction you want. The Disco remains for sale, and the Disco will launch sometime in the first quarter of 2012. Should you be at CES, and also have some kind of crazy belief that you might actually hear a demo unit over the din of the show floor, you can check out the new Disco at SuperTooth’s booth.
